Kolkata Subarna Foundation
Kolkata Subarna Foundation

The idea was conceived nearly twenty-two years ago — a vision to encourage and recognize the Subarna Banik community, particularly those meritorious students who have achieved outstanding results in various academic examinations or have shown exceptional talent in areas like sports, music, and the arts.

The pioneer of this initiative was Shri Arun Kumar Mallik (affectionately known as Kachurida). Initially, he was supported in this noble cause by the late Shri Gopal Lal Chandra, the esteemed head of Rasiklal Chandra & Sons. Later, the initiative further flourished under the patronage of Shri Bijay Kumar Chandra, one of the owners of PC Chandra Jewellers. It is worth mentioning that he graciously took on all financial responsibilities related to the foundation’s awards and honours.

From that point on, the annual felicitation and award ceremony began gaining popularity, growing steadily under his patronage.

In fact, under the leadership of Mr. Bijay, and with the dedicated support of like-minded individuals such as Shri Arun Kumar Mallik, Shri Birendra Nath Dutta, and Shri Jyotirmoy Mallik, the initiative found increasing momentum and structure.

A new chapter began in 2018 when the Kolkata Subarna Foundation was formally established.

The Foundation’s Official Magazine

Subarna Rekha was first published in 2018, edited by Smt. Susmelee Dutta. The magazine features creative contributions from the Subarna Banik community — short stories, poems, essays, articles, memoirs, travelogues, recipes, beauty tips, paintings, photography, and more.

It also includes a special section featuring interviews with the achievers and champions within the community. Moreover, it has a section titled “In Remembrance” to chronicle the past achievements of the Subarna Banik community or to reprint their success stories.

Our goal is to ensure that the present and future generations are aware of the achievements and values of their predecessors. After all, no community can progress without a solid understanding of its history. The purpose of Subarna Rekha is to not only serve as a guide for our present and future generations but also to delve deep into our community history to discover our roots.

Six full years have passed since its inception — yet even today, Subarna Rekha remains a beloved platform for the Subarna Banik youth, allowing them to freely and confidently express their talents. Likewise, readers can easily engage with and appreciate these unique creations from emerging voices in the community.
